17Goza-no-ma (the lord’s living room)
This is the Goza-no-ma. This was the private quarters of the lord. If you would direct your attention to the pillars, you will notice that they are darker in color than those in other rooms, and also appear to be older. This is because this room is not a reproduction; it remains in the same state as when it was built in 1838. The Saga Castle main palace lost its function as a castle in the Meiji Era and was used as administrative offices, a courthouse, a school, etc. The building aged with time and most of it was torn down, but this Goza-no-ma was preserved.
