10Structural model of the building

This model shows the structure of exactly where you are standing now. For this restoration project, although we partially employed modern-day reinforcement techniques, most of the restoration was carried out using construction methods from the Edo Period. Even in places that cannot be seen, for example, the roofs are waterproofed by affixing thin cedar boards below the roof tiles using bamboo nails. This model also shows the underfloor structure built to protect the foundation stones, the roof truss with thick, intricately intertwining beams, and many other details. The four types of lumber used for this reconstruction were cedar, cypress, pine and zelkova, 40% of which were produced in Saga Prefecture and the rest procured from all over Japan.
