January 8, 1973 | Several people, including the mayor of Arita, petitioned for the establishment of an international ceramic art museum. |

June, 1977 | The construction plan for the Saga Cultural Center for Ceramic Art (tentative name) was created. |
November 24, 1977 | The first committee meeting for the construction of the Saga Prefectural Cultural Center for Ceramic Art was held. |
December 8, 1977 | The cooperative for promoting the construction of the Saga Prefectural Cultural Center for Ceramic Art was established. (Chairman: Nabeshima Naotsugu) |
February 28, 1978 | The basic design was completed. |
January 16, 1979 | The groundbreaking ceremony was held. |
July 6, 1979 | The official name was decided to be 'Kyushu Ceramic Museum'. |
March 25, 1980 | The construction of Kyushu Ceramic Museum was completed (construction costs: 1,745,100,000 yen). |
November 1, 1980 | The museum was opened. A special exhibition, "Kyushu Ceramics Exhibition - The Development and Inheritance," was held to celebrate the opening of the museum. (until December 7) |
June 12, 1989 | The "Large Tripod Dish with Underglaze Cobalt-blue Design of Herons" was designated as a National Important Cultural Property |
November 1, 1990 | In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the museum, an exhibition on "Hizen Wares Abroad" was held. (until December 9) |
April 29, 1993 | The exhibition room for the Mr. and Mrs. Shibata Collection was opened as part of the permanent exhibition. |
October 3, 2000 | In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the museum and the 400th anniversary of Japanese-Dutch relations, "The Voyage of Old-Imari Porcelains" exhibition was held. (until December 3) |
December 4, 2000 | The "Large Lobed Dish with Underglaze Cobalt-blue Design of a Landscape" was designated as a National Important Cultural Property. |
December 28, 2000 | The Karakuri musical clock was installed. |
March 31, 2006 | 10,311 pieces of Arita porcelain (Mr. and Mrs. Shibata Collection) were designated as tangible cultural property of Japan (Fine Arts and Crafts). |
October 2, 2010 | In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the museum, "The Mesmerising World of Kyushu Ceramics" exhibition was held. |
