On Wednesday, February 11, a special edition of our ceramics seminar will be held at 13:30 p.m., presented by Ms. Cora Wuermell, Curator of the East Asian Ceramic Collection at the Porzellansammlung (Zwinger Palace), Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, Germany.
The Porzellansammlung of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) has launched an innovative open-access digital platform, The Royal Dresden Porcelain Collection. This platform provides unprecedented access to one of the world's most important collections of Japanese and Chinese porcelain and stoneware, originally assembled by Augustus the Strong.
Visitors can explore over 8,000 objects, including outstanding examples of Arita ware (Hizen porcelain, including Hasami ware) and Chinese porcelain. Beyond the objects themselves, the platform also opens up rare archival resources, notably the Historical Palace Inventories of 1721 and 1779, offering valuable insights into early modern collecting practices.
The website is available in English and features Japanese-language object captions, making te exceptional resource accesible to an international audience.
At this seminar on Feburary 11, Ms. Wuermell will introduce the platform and demonstrate how to use it effectively for research and teaching. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Please note: This seminar is in-person only and will not be streamed online. We warmly welcome your participation.
