Production Area
Arita, Hizen
Period of Production
1640s - 1650s
Note

Gift of Imaizumi Kichiro

During this period, Hizen porcelain evolved from the early Imari style, achieving significant technical innovations such as enlarging the foot rim diameter, producing thinner vessels, and creating a whiter body.
This piece exhibits a rare wheel-shaped form with fluted edges created through hera-bori carving. The finely rendered landscape in underglaze blue, with its crisp lines and rich shading, stands out beautifully against the pure white background. It is a superb example of underglaze blue porcelain from the era of technical refinement in Hizen ware.
