Exhibition Details

Loosdorf Castle, located in the suburbs of Vienna, Austria was once decorated with a number of Old-Imari porcelain (Ko-Imari). However, most of the collection was destroyed during the Second World War. Although the Piatti Family, owner of the Loosdorf castle, was overwhelmed by this incident, they decided not to discard the porcelain shards. The family has instead exhibited the remnants for many years as mementos to convey the tragedy of war and their desire for peace.

This is the first time the Loosdorf Castle Collection is being displayed outside of Austria. The exhibition includes the remnants of porcelain ceramic works from Japan, China and Europe and are exhibited along with masterpieces of Old-Imari wares from Kyushu Ceramic Museum.

The exhibition also focuses on 'Rebirth' as a theme, introducing works fully restored from the shards and broken pieces using the latest Japanese restoration technologies.
