Important Cultural Property

National Important Cultural Properties are tangible cultural properties located in Japan, including structures, fine arts and crafts, archaeological materials, and historical materials. They are designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology under the Cultural Properties Protection Act as possessing high historical or artistic value, or high academic value. Two items in our collection have been designated.
Saga Prefecture Important Cultural Properties are designated under the Saga Prefecture Cultural Properties Protection Ordinance. This ordinance is based on the Cultural Properties Protection Act, which states that “important cultural properties existing within the jurisdiction of a local government, other than those designated nationally, may be designated, and necessary measures for their preservation and utilization may be taken.” Eleven items in our collection are designated as such.
